This project transformed a prominent corner of a 105-year-old masonry building in Portland’s 13th Avenue Historic District into a 4,000-square-foot KEEN retail store. KEEN named it the “Garage” to capture its relationship to their headquarters situated in the floors above.
The fast-tracked project balanced the needs and aesthetic goals for the retail space inside with the historic district’s exacting standards for building modifications outside. C2K collaborated with designer Chazz Hacking of Rofu to integrate playful, inventive, and recycled fixtures throughout the space. Highlights include a table made from reclaimed bowling alley flooring, a grand interior door made out of an old barn door, a “gravity chute” that delivers shoes from the mezzanine stock area to the point of sale, and interactive displays such as their signature “shoe rotisserie.”
This project was completed in 2012. It was awarded first place for renovation in Portland’s Daily Journal of Commerce “Top Projects of 2013.”
