When athletic footwear and apparel company KEEN relocated from the Bay Area, C2K provided architectural services to give them a new home. This fast-paced project called for renovating and remodeling a five-story, 50,000-square-foot masonry building located in Portland’s 13th Avenue Historic District.
For the exterior, we provided a complete rebuild of the loading dock and awning at the entry. Interior modifications included adding a recreation space for KEEN’s employees at the ground floor, fully renovating an unfinished basement, and putting in a new staircase between the basement and the ground floor. We also prepared the Historic Design Review application.
For the upper floor office spaces, we helped KEEN unify what had been four stories of space for multiple tenants into a single headquarters facility. We exposed the building’s original brick exterior walls, repurposed existing materials in creative ways, and used recycled and reclaimed materials wherever possible. We also inserted a new staircase between the second and third floors.
This project was completed in 2012. It was awarded first place for renovation in Portland’s Daily Journal of Commerce “Top Projects of 2013.”
